Bookarama volunteers
Members of the community are needed to volunteer with this year’s Bookarama charity book sale. The event is organised by the Rotary Club of Howick with proceeds going to numerous local charitable causes. It’s on at Howick College from October 1-5 but volunteers are needed to help collect and sort the donated pre-love books, puzzles, games, DVDs, CDs, and LPs. People keen to help can go online to www.bookarama.co.nz and click the “volunteers” tab.

Cockle Bay School memorabilia
Cockle Bay School would like to hear from east Aucklanders who have a connection to it to share their memories, photographs, and memorabilia they have. Whether you were a student, teacher, parent, or member of the community who remembers the school’s early days, your stories are very welcome. Of particular interest are old class photos, school event programmes, newspaper clippings, and personal anecdotes that capture the spirit of the school over the years. For more information, and to send contributions, email Sandra Meyer at cbshistory@cocklebay.school.nz.
Meet the candidates
Two public meetings are being held in east Auckland to let voters hear from candidates standing in this year’s local elections. The first is hosted by the Howick Ratepayers and Residents Association and will feature candidates standing for Auckland’s mayoralty and for election to Auckland Council in the Howick ward. It’s at 1.30pm on Saturday, August 30, at Howick Bowling Club, 33 Selwyn Road. The second event will feature candidates standing for election to the Howick Local Board. It’s organised by Korean Positive Ageing Charitable Trust and is on from 1.30pm-3pm on Friday, September 12, at St. Paul’s in the Park auditorium at 141 Chapel Road, Flat Bush.
