A movie filmed at locations in east Auckland in just over a week is set to screen locally at Monterey Cinemas Howick.
Green Angels is written and produced by Peter Webster and was shot in the local community with its primary location being a “fabulous” house in Eastern Beach.
Filming was also carried out in Beachlands and Maraetai.
The film tells the story of a relentlessly ambitious woman with a deprived upbringing who neglects the welfare of her teenage stepson.
Her plans fail miserably, which brings her to confront the real problem in her life.
The “inspiring family drama” is described as a “story with hurt, where the heart must prevail”.
Webster told the Times the majority of the 35 people in the cast and crew live in Howick and surrounding suburbs.
“My 45 years’ experience at Howick Little Theatre gave me a network of talented people keen to be involved,” he says.
“Filming took just eight days, which is crazy, but the cast includes well-known actors Siobhan Marshall in the lead role and Rachel Nash.
“Produced to a micro-budget, the crew included Howick College student Blake Ingram as gaffer and Stephanie Smith, a filmschool student from Beachlands, as camera assistant.
“Working alongside acclaimed director of photography Matt Gerrand was a wonderful opportunity for them.
“Our main location was a fabulous house in Eastern Beach and I am especially thankful for the generosity of Balraj Kingra and family who vacated their house every day for 10 hours.
“Executive producer of the film was Martin Evans of Whitford whose generosity enabled this community-produced feature to be completed to a high standard.”
The film’s cast and crew worked for seven days straight at the house in Eastern Beach before moving to three locations on the Pohutukawa Coast for the eighth day.
- Green Angels screens at Monterey Cinemas Howick for six days and opens on May 1. The 74-minute film is rated M.
