Prevention must begin at birth

It is incredibly naïve of Christopher Luxon to think that charter schools are a solution to ram raiding.

This assumption shows clearly his disconnect from the reality of crime and its causes.

Having taught in South Auckland for nearly 40 years, you learn simplistic solutions never work. Preventing young people getting into this type of behaviour needs to start before they are born and may need to continue for 20 years.

A good initial step would be for all kids to be brought home from hospital to a well-insulated home that is not overcrowded and where a basic standard of living can be provided.

From there a child can begin their life with a real chance.
