STIRRING performances by the Football Ferns and Black Sticks hockey teams have extended the south-east’s representation at London.

Howick Pakuranga Hockey Club’s Kayla Sharland scored a scorching goal in the women’s Black Sticks 4-1 win over South Africa last Tuesday, to go with their 1-0 upset over Australia in the opening match.

HPHC’s Andy Hayward and Phil Burrows also scored in the men’s 3-1 victory against India.

The women face Argentina at 8am on Friday, screening on Sky Sport 6, with the men lining up against the Netherlands at 9.35pm on Sky Sport 9.

Sharland and fellow HPHC players Emily Naylor and Melody Cooper are in action again at 5.35am on Sunday morning against the United States on Sky Sport 7, followed by the men at 7.20pm against Belgium on Sky Sport 5.

After their 3-1 win over Cameroon, the Football Ferns, featuring Fencibles United’s Abby Erceg and Rebecca Rolls, are through to the quarter-finals. They take on the United States at 1.30am on Saturday morning, with delayed coverage on Sky Sport 9 at 1pm.

After day four of the sailing programme, former Saint Kentigern College student Blair Tuke, with Peter Burling, is in second place of the 49er class with 10 races remaining in the regatta.

Live sailing sessions that include the 49ers are tonight at 10.50pm (Sky Sport 11) and 11.45pm (Sky Sport 8), and tomorrow at 11.45pm (Sky Sport 8).

Pakuranga Athletic Club’s Val Adams, the 2008 Olympic champion, kicks off her shot-put campaign at 6am on Saturday morning on Sky Sport 4.
