Two local Year 13 students have won large study grants from the Howick RSA.

Katelyn Ross, 17, from Botany Downs Secondary College and Renee Page, 17, from Howick College, were each presented $2000 cheques last Thursday night for their first year of tertiary study.

The scholarships will see each student receive a further $2000 next year upon successful completion of year one.

Miss Ross will undertake a Bachelor of Nursing while Miss Page will take on a Bachelor of Science in paramedicine.

Howick RSA president Mike Cole said selecting scholarship recipients involved a competitive selection process.

Applicants’ families also had to have some form of military affiliation.

“The scholarships are for students from local secondary schools moving on to full time tertiary study, and provide fee assistance for the first two years of study,” he said.

“This year’s students reflect the quality of secondary education in our area, and the quality of the applicants.”
