Police nabbed a drunk man on a moped who is alleged to have enticed children with chocolate and “hassled” them in the car park of New World supermarket in Howick on Halloween night.

A woman on a social media site reported that she called police after spotting a “very drunk man on a red moped enticing children with chocolate”.

“I witnessed him inappropriately touching a child,” the woman said.

Police said in a statement to the Times that they are making enquiries into the incident and will be speaking to witnesses” to establish exactly what has occurred”.

“At approximately 7:45pm last night (Tuesday, October 31) police received a report that a man on a motorbike had approached a group of young people in a supermarket carpark on Wellington Street, Howick,” a police spokesman said.

“It was reported to police that the man had spoken inappropriately towards the group.

“Police responded immediately and located the man nearby. He was apprehended and taken to the station where he was processed for driving with excess breath alcohol.”
