Local identity Bob McMillan, the man behind luxury car specialists Team McMillan BMW, has died aged 74.

Formerly of Mellons Bay, Mr McMillan – full name Robert Ivory McMillan – passed away at home on May 1 surrounded by his family, a NZ Herald death notice said.

He and his wife Kerry lived on Bleakhouse Road for some years and raised their three children in the area.

In 2014, Mr McMillan sold the family’s 50 per cent stake in Team McMillan to co-owner Collins Asset Management, NBR reported.

Collins was for several years a 50 per cent shareholder in the company which sold BMW, Mini and Rolls-Royce cars. Team McMillan was BMW’s biggest dealership.

Mr and Mrs McMillan sold a Parnell property in 2015, according to NBR, and moved into a Remuera apartment.

“A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held on Friday, May 5 at the Holy Trinity Cathedral in Parnell at 2.30pm on Friday. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mercy Hospice,” the family told the Times.

Condolences in a guest book online signed by Liz Doyle and family read: “Bob, a wonderful employer and valued friend, your many kindnesses will always be remembered.”
