Flash, fast and furious

The flash $10 million LaFerrari Aperta which is so exclusive that according to some, even the Sultan of Brunei wasn’t allowed to buy it, wasn’t the only scene stealer at Big Boys Toys held at ASB Showground over the weekend.  Vying for attention was a flawless beauty – the gold-panelled 488 Spider 2017 exuding power and a superior experience.

Every man’s dream come true, the premier male lifestyle show in New Zealand, now in its 18th year, had all the trappings of sleek, shiny, sophisticated mean machines and gadgets competing with super saloons, race cars and off roaders on display.

The fast and furious from Ferrari, Honda, Jaguar, Land Rover, SRT and RAM was a feast for the eyes. Long queues to test drive a line-up of electric cars including Tesla, Nissan Leaf and Hyundai was testimony to the interest the cars of the future are generating.

There was plenty to keep everyone entertained from watching death-defying stunts by Kiwi FMX (freestyle motocross) legends Nick Franklin and Caleb Delacy along with 15-year-old FMX star Carlos Hanlon, (youngest New Zealander to land a back-flip) to the strong man competition.

A lot of young ones were spotted getting autographs from Nitro Circus rider Paul Langland along with Hugh Wotherspoon, Lewis Clark and Nico Groenedijk.

The construction zone was a new addition this year, showcasing big machinery from the construction industry in an interactive format with competitions, demonstrations and an opportunity for some to get behind the controls of the diggers.
