Simeon Brown, MP for Pakuranga, has welcomed the selection of Simon Bridges as the new leader of the National Party.

“Simon brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record to his new position, and I look forward to working alongside him as we head towards the next election in 2020,” says Brown.

“As Minister of Transport in the last government, Simon understood the transport issues facing east Auckland and progressed policies that were directly beneficial to residents in Pakuranga, such as funding for the AMETI/Eastern Busway project, and the East-West Link which the Labour Government has now cancelled.

“National remains a united front and will give Simon our full backing as we work to hold the Labour/NZ First/Green government to account.

He was also pleased Paula Bennett will continue on as deputy leader which would provide National with a “talented and experienced”  leadership team..

“I would also like to recognise the leadership of Bill English, who served with great distinction, commitment, and compassion as Prime Minister and leader of the National Party.

“I look forward to working alongside Simon Bridges and Paula Bennett and continuing to advocate for the issues which matter in Pakuranga.”
