Dan Bidois, a strategist and economist from Howick, is the new Northcote MP.

Bidois easily won Saturday’s by-election with 10,147 votes against Labour’s Shanan Halbert who received 8785, a margin of 1362 votes. Labour increased its proportion of votes.

Bidois told the Times he is “really happy” with the result, with National’s support holding up at 51.1 per cent (similar to the 2017 election with Jonathan Coleman) of the vote compared to the coalition party’s support

He has attended his first Caucus meeting already.

“I’m looking forward to working hard for the people of Northcote on key campaign issues like congestion, opposing extra fuel taxes and making sure Northcote gets its fair share of investment,” he said.

He joins the National Party Caucus team of 56 MPs.
