Last Saturday at Hamilton’s Porritt Stadium, Vili had a record-equalling throw of 20.25m for the annual Porritt Classic event.
It bettered her meeting record of 19.66m set in 2008.
The 2009 Halberg sportswoman and supreme awards winner opened with the record toss that she did not surpass in the rest of the competition. Jessica Cerival of France was second with 16.99m.
Vili’s New Zealand all-comers and resident record [set in New Zealand] was exactly a year ago at Waitakere, while her Oceania and national record of 21.07m was set when winning the world athletic final in Greece in September.
Vili was pleased with her performance at the Porritt Classic.
“It was a pretty good opener. It sets the standard for the rest of the world and shows them all where we’re at. It’s always awesome to come to the Porritt Classic and I’ve given the crowd a show. I don’t compete in New Zealand a lot, so it’s a great opportunity.”
