THEY’RE all very proud and happy for Cecilia Cho down at Pakuranga Country Club.
The exceptional teenage golfer has just been awarded the female amateur of the year prize at the annual New Zealand Golf awards.
Cho, now 15, won most of the 15 individual titles she collected last year as a 14-year-old, including the New Zealand strokeplay championship.
She was the leading player on the national amateur women’s order of merit, while at last year’s New Zealand Women’s Open she was the highest placing New Zealander, amateur or professional, finishing in a share of 14th place. Cho has been a member at Pakuranga Country Club for a number of years and is held in high regard, says women’s club captain Carol Smith.
“We’re intensely proud of Cecilia. We’re in total awe at her dedication to the sport,” says Smith.
“Her attitude is so humble. She has a well-rounded attitude to life.”
Smith says it’s NCEA study year for Cho at Pakuranga College and the teenager is determined to have a “dedicated approach” to her schooling and golf.
Meanwhile, at the NZ Golf Awards, Danny Lee was chosen as golfer of the year, while David Smail was the NZPGA professional player of the year.
