A LONG-serving Fencibles United Football Club member has been acknowledged for her services to the round ball code in Auckland.
Danna Mandry, who has performed many roles for Fencibles over two decades, was one of six “dedicated volunteers” who were recognised for their “outstanding” contributions with long service medals by the Auckland Football Federation last month.
Mandry has been with Fencibles United since they formed through the amalgamation of the old Howick and Pakuranga Town clubs in 1995.
She has been club secretary for 10 years and has been women’s club captain, youth co-ordinator, building and facilities manager, bar manager, caterer, cleaner, and mentor to the youth at Fencibles.
“Given the tremendous service by the long service medalists, any time would be a good time to highlight what they’ve done for our game,” says David Parker, chief executive at Auckland Football and a Bucklands Beach resident.
“To be able to thank them all publicly for their contribution to our sport at a time when we’re experiencing a boom in publicity and performance internationally is very pleasing given their respective roles in that success.”
The other long service medal recipients were Ann Sova (Lynn-Avon Utd), An Slecht (Papatoetoe), Tony Andrews (Bay Olympic), Tony Pickering (Three Kings Utd) and referee Peter Shackleton.
