SETTING SAIL: Some of the action from Auckland Anniversary Day last year. Photo supplied.
NEW Zealand’s oldest sporting event celebrating Auckland Anniversary Day and its maritime history sails off on Monday on the Waitemata Harbour and Hauraki Gulf.
The 170th Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta fleet includes tall ships, gaff riggers, sloops, racing keelers, sailing dinghies, radio controlled boats, elegant classic yachts and an armada of more than 20 restored tugboats.
About 11.30am on Monday, after the tugboat race, some of the old-timer vessels will be berthed at Viaduct Harbour for viewing.
Vantage points around the harbour shoreline include North Head, Bastion Point and Orakei.
