HOWICK Hornets came up against a highly motivated Richmond Bulldogs side last Saturday in Auckland rugby league’s premier grade Fox Memorial qualification series.

The Bulldogs were mourning the recent death of one of Richmond’s players and they showed their determination in the 20-8 victory over the Hornets at Grey Lynn Park.

The Hornets have now lost three of their season opening four matches in Section A, the same win-loss record as the Pakuranga Jaguars have in Section B.

The Jaguars secured their first win last Saturday, a 76-4 romp over Hibiscus Coast Raiders.
