That Di specialises in artificial flowers, albeit that they look completely real, says something for the quality of her products. It is extremely difficult to discern the difference between real plants and the multitude of artificial plants that fill her Bishop’s Gate shop, Everlasting Daisies.
But it is Di’s artistry and her sense of décor style that were instrumental in her being invited to take on the casino project.
“I was initially asked to do one large arrangement with the view of creating a further six. However, once the first was completed it was decided to extend the number to 12 – two dominant displays complemented by 10 smaller arrangements.”
While the ideas for the display were her own, Di had to work with the American architects and take into consideration elements of Feng Shui. As a result of the latter she based the ‘living’ garden aspect of the project on the Milky Way’s Big Dipper.
“I did some research and discovered that this constellation is considered to be an important symbol of luck by many Eastern populations. In addition the circular motion of the design denotes strength.”
These alter in colour as hidden uplights change colour.
The ‘living garden’, which wraps itself around the arrangements, sits atop 700 blocks of oasis used to create varying levels. Ferns, moss and waterlillies are complemented by thousands of polished stones plus strategically placed artificial rocks.
“I made the individual arrangements at the shop and had them transported into SkyCity,” Di says. “It then took two days to install the ‘living’ garden and ensure everything looked just right.”
Never one to sit still Di is presently working on contemporary arrangements for ECC Lighting and Living to complement their latest additions from the Milan Furniture Fair as well as a series of containers for the luxury yacht business.
