WITH traffic concerns becoming a pressing issue for schools throughout the Howick and Pakuranga area, Times  reporter Dean Wedlake spoke to parents at Shelly Park School to find out the reasons they were still driving to pick their children up.

Although it was a once-off for some parents, the main reason given was the distance travelled to pick their children up.

Because the Times visited Shelly Park on a Thursday afternoon, some children were picked up as opposed to taking the walking school bus on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“I teach at another school so I can’t walk from there to pick up my children. It’s also a struggle to make it to Shelly Park just after 3pm after finishing my classes.” Kimberly White, Howick.

“It’s much more of a convenience to drive to pick up the children.” Sharon Dean, Meadowlands.

“I drive in from Whitford so it’s a bit too far to walk to pick them up.”
 Adele Mouat, Whitford

“My grandsons are coming with me instead of their parents as a special treat for the afternoon.” Marilyn Kirkup, Howick.
