MEMBERS of two school bands are disappointed after failing to get through to the next stage of a nationwide music competition.
Singer Phillip Lavea, of Sancta Maria College, took out the $100 prize for best song, while Amadeus Vincent and his band mates in The Alliance finished third in the Manukau regional final of the 2010 Smokefreerockquest.
The Alliance, made up of musicians from Sancta Maria and Botany Downs Secondary colleges, won music gear from NZ Rockshops for their high placing at the competition held last weekend.
Amadeus says they played an “awesome set” and received encouraging feedback.
Bands from local schools will feature in the Auckland East final on Saturday. Bands from Howick, Macleans, Botany Downs Secondary, Pakuranga and Elim Christian colleges will compete for one of the eight finalist spots.
Prizes at the Smokefreerockquest national final, to be held in Hamilton later in the year, include a NZ On Air recording and music video grant worth $10,000, music gear, recording time at a top studio, radio play and more.
Tickets to the Auckland East final at Botany Downs Secondary College on June 19 at 7pm cost $15 from Botany Rockshop, Botany Town Centre, or $20 at the door.
