Two members of the organising committee, Jenny Foster and Ian Rodger, say Howickians should think of them as a chance to catch up with and meet new people.
Mrs Foster, of Howick Village Association, and Mr Rodger, of the Rotary Club of Half Moon Bay, believe that in the past there may have been public perception the awards night is invitation only but that’s not the case.
“It’s a wonderful night to celebrate people who have done great deeds in our communities over the past year.
“If people want to see these contributions recognised, while enjoying the company of an interesting and diverse group of people, come along, you’ll have a great time.”
Tickets will be available soon at $45 a head for the ceremony at the Howick Club on August 31.
This year there are seven categories for people living or working in the greater Howick area – business person, arts, young person, citizen of the year, employee, local hero(es) and environmental.
Nominations can be made until early August. Forms are available online at www.times.co.nz, by calling the village association on (09) 535-4505, or emailing info@howickvillage.co.nz, where tickets can also be ordered.
Completed forms can be posted to the Howick Village Association, PO Box 38-124, Howick, or faxed on (09) 534-4505.
