The celebrations at Okahu Bay, Auckland, were officially opened by Team New Zealand skipper Barker, who spoke of his own scouting memories and support for the movement and its guiding principle of service to the community.
Also in attendance was Captain Fred Keating, who is the newly appointed commander of the Devonport Naval Base.
He commented that the New Zealand Navy was about 70 years old, making the NZ Sea Scouts with its 100 years the senior service.
More than 500 Scouts joined their parents, siblings and members of the public in enjoying a full day of activities such as sailing, kayaking, swimming races, learning to tie knots and racing over an obstacle course.
As part of a flag ceremony on the day, a special flag sent from Scout HQ in England was unfurled and flew during the event.
The flag is now travelling to other countries, including Japan and the US, for similar celebrations.
