Comedy show for islands

THE Kila Kokonut Krew and Auckland Theatre Company are getting together as part of the Manukau Festival of the Arts.

They are presenting Strictly Brown at Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre on Sunday, November 8, to raise money for the victims of the tsunami in Samoa.

Funny man Robbie Magasiva – of Shortland Street, Bro’Town and Sione’s Wedding  fame – will be making a guest appearance at the show hosted by comedy crusader Vela Manusaute, with Kila acts from the Kila Kokonut Krew band starring Tony T.

Talking about Sir Peter

DR MARK Orams is sailing into NZ Maritime Museum’s next Speaker Series event.

The successful yachtsman, scientist, environmentalist and adventurer was part of Sir Peter Blake’s crew on Steinlager 2 that won the Whitbread Around The World Yacht Race.

He was also in Team New Zealand for its two America’s Cup defences in Auckland.

Dr Orams recently published Blake: Leader. Leadership Lessons from a Great New Zealander.

He will be speaking about the book and his many experiences with Sir Peter from 7pm-8.30pm in the museum’s Maritime Room on Tuesday, November 10.

Invitation to social bowls

PEOPLE are being invited to join in with social games at Howick Bowling Club on Thursdays.

Sessions start at 6pm and are followed by a light meal, and players need flat-soled shoes or jandals.

THE winners of the Tui Tomato growing packs are Jane Strachan, of Maraetai, and Clare Hoare from Howick.

Contest success

A BUSINESS-minded college student has scored highly at a competition.

Jason Leung, of Macleans College in Bucklands Beach, earned a high distinction and was the best-placed Year 11 student at the New Zealand Economics Competition. About 500 students and teachers attended the event, which was held at the University of Auckland.

Other high distinctions were awarded to Macleans students Jessica Cai, Irene Hu, Joshua Kang, Charlie Wang, Venus Wong and Vicky Yen.
