THERE’S only a few more sleeps to go until Karen Davy tries to claim a world record for New Zealand, all for Kidney Kids.
TALENTED VOCALIST: Karen Davy. Photo supplied.
She gets the glory for holding the Guinness World Record attempt for the longest karaoke marathon and with funds raised, 15 Kidney Kids will have most of their airfares covered for a special camp in Australia next year.
“The support so far has been wonderful. Karen has been doing a lot of publicity this week leading up to Saturday and so far she’s accumulated a least $1000 worth of sponsorship money,” says the singer’s friend and manager Paul Norfolk.
He and a Kidney Kids team are hoping Ms Davy’s mammoth karaoke session will attract donations totalling $10,000. Mr Norfolk says so far local businesses have been very supportive with exposure and publicity. He’s sure they’ll “follow through on the day”.
“We’ve had lots of people signing up to sponsor Karen per hour and businesses around the Botany Town Centre have been putting up posters, so I’m sure they’ll donate something too.”
Ms Davy will attempt to “bring the record home” this Saturday morning beginning at 10am outside Botany New World and will sing non-stop for 26 hours.
“We’re just organising all the paperwork and getting all the officials, you know all the timekeepers and medical support we need for the weekend,” says Mr Norfolk.
Publicity hasn’t been hard to generate for the former

team, all raising her profi le and “getting the word out there for people to support me and Kidney Kids”.
“Let’s give these kids a great holi-day,” she says.Browns Bay New World has donated Ms Davy a supply of bottled water and Albany’s Laser Direct is supplying all audio equipment for free.
She’ll be singing a three-hour set and putting that play-list on repeat over and over again.
“All songs have to be at least three minutes long. I can’t sing the same song within the hour. I’ve worked out I’ll sing each song nine times,” says Ms Davy.
The entertainer is hoping eastern suburbs locals will not only enjoy her record breaking singing attempt and will also give generously to Kidney Kids.
All money goes directly to Kid-ney Kids. To sponsor Karen Davy per hour or to give a donation, see
