Since a landslip in August, Manukau City Council has been working with affected property owners, the Earthquake Commission and geotechnical engineers to find ways of stabilising the landslip area and reopening the road. The council says a community meeting is expected to be held before Christmas to inform residents about a long-term solution.
Substantial earthworks will be required to stabilise the landslip area, it says.
Meanwhile, the council says it has received reports of local and visiting drivers running the red lights at the landslip area, which has almost caused accidents.
A red light, the council says, is a signal that a car is already on the single lane road and will take a few minutes to travel through and out.
