TURNING 97 is an achievement in itself, but one Howick resident thought she could do more by using her coming of age to help hungry animals.
“I love animals,” says the bubbly senior citizen, and her friends “thought it was a great idea”.
Mrs Davis managed to collect a substantial amount of meat and biscuits that she says will help “the dogs have a nice Christmas”.
SPCA chief executive Bob Kerridge emailed Mrs Davis thanking her for her efforts.
“May I say directly to you Clarice, happy birthday and thank you – God bless you,” wrote Mr Kerridge.
Mrs Davis hopes her actions will make others think about who they’re giving to this festive season.
“I hope that what I have done will inspire others to do the same,” she says.
The active 97-year-old, who stopped driving only last year and still enjoys a good game of bridge twice a week, also gives to Starship Hospital, Save the Children and guide dog services.
