PETROLHEADS created a stink at Gull Service Station on Ti Rakau Drive last Wednesday.
She confidently paraded the specially designed motorbike around the forecourt before making tracks on the first leg of the Conquest – Conquering Freedom Tour to the Otara Spinal Unit and then took the open road to Tauranga.
Designed and manufactured for wheelchair users, the Conquest is the first three-wheeled motorcycle of its kind in New Zealand.
CatWalk Trust is using the tour to raise money for SCI research.
“I used to ride horses years ago before ending up in a wheelchair after a bus crash,” says Ms Wenley. “I used to ride farm bikes but nothing like this, though, nothing like a big road bike.”
During Labour Weekend Ms Wenley took the Conquest for a hoon around Auckland. She experienced the wind and excitement of riding free, as well as the challenge of six gears.
For the rest of the tour through New Zealand 16 other paraplegics will have their moment of glory on the Conquest, finishing at Christchurch on November 13.
