There were a fair few people sandwiched in at the official opening, and in light of that, the on-view kitchen and staff get a big thumbs up – they managed admirably. No one had to look for food, and the varied selection maintained quality, hitting the spot for most tastes.
Another innovation from the Barworks Hospitality Group, which has part ownership in a number of East Auckland bars (including Basalt and Celsius), Goode Brothers is upbeat with classy décor and an intimate, contemporary environment for socialising. The other half of the partnership is managing director Keppel Brown who has been instrumental in bringing the whole concept to life.
But it was the menu that I really liked. Patrons can create their own salads and pastas or choose from the chef’s own creations. Pizzas fit into three categories – traditional ($12.50), classic ($15.50) or premium ($18.50) and when it comes to pasta there are seven options in the ‘select-a-pasta’ section plus a choice of traditional ($12.50) or classic ($15.50) sauces.
Alternatively there’s a similarly well-packed meat lovers platter for the same price and diners can also order the likes of burgers, steak, fish ‘n’ chips plus desserts and there’s a kids’ menu too.
After hearing comments from guests who had already dined in-house and then having my own taste of this new venue, it seemed to me that Goode Brothers, could rightly claim to have Goode food, Goode music and a Goode atmosphere. In fact, its future looks pretty Goode too.
