Local businesswomen’s breakfast group Palaver ended the year on a high note yesterday despite upcoming changes for 2008.

A parade of stunning fashions by Howick-based designer Kevin Moore, focused on racewear, after five and mother of the bride or groom sensations. The stylish lineup took cut, quality fabrics simplicity of design and workmanship to new levels.

Kevin’s exquisite use of Dupion silk and tulle provided elegant solutions for the most prestigious occasion and also reminded members that they have access to a leading fashion studio in the heart of Howick.

The parade was typical of the quality entertainment and speakers organised for monthly meetings at the East City Salvation Army lounge by the club’s founding co-ordinators Elise Markwick and Suzanne McDowell.

However, with Elise stepping down from her responsibilities to devote more time to the Salvation Army in Botany, meetings will, from next year, be organised by a new leadership committee, which will include Suzanne.

Palaver was launched in March 2003 after East City Salvation Army approached Elise with the idea of breakfast meetings for women heading or involved in local businesses and who would benefit from a networking opportunity.

“Elise asked me to help her co-ordinate the club working in conjunction with the Salvation Army,” said Suzanne after yesterday’s meeting. “From the start Palaver was a success and has gone from strength to strength but it may be that next year we will not only change the organisational structure but could require a new venue. Nothing is settled yet but if we need a new meeting place members will be notified and new members are always welcome.”
