Dance, music, food and fun are all part of a flamboyant Salsa Extravaganza which will bring to an end this year’s busy programme of performances at Uxbridge, Howick’s Creative Centre.

All set to go on Saturday, November 24 in the Uxbridge Theatre, music will be provided by the Matecito Latin Band led by Peruvian-born, Bucklands Beach resident Gerardo Torres.

A professional singer and entertainer who has worked with some of the world’s best international Latin and Salsa bands, Gerardo has performed in front of many diplomats and presidents of  Peru and today fronts three bands in New Zealand – Matecito, the Mexican Mariachi Bande and the Candela Troupe which includes dancers and singers.

With Matecito setting the mood for this Latin-style party, dancers are assured there will be plenty of room to take to the floor and everyone – dancers and spectators – who enjoy this, sensuous, energetic and passionate dance style are encouraged to make a night of it.

There will also be a floorshow of award-winning dancers, with three of the country’s top Salsa couples taking to the floor to demonstrate their jaw-dropping skills.

The live band will play from 8pm to 11pm, after which a DJ will direct the music until midnight. South American snacks will be served throughout the evening and a cash bar serving South American style drinks will be available.

Tickets: Adults, $25; Under-17, $15; Concession – 10 or more, one free ticket. For booking enquiries phone Uxbridge 535-6467.
