The Pakuranga Choral Society is all set for a swinging Christmas with its annual end of year concert a happy combination of upbeat and traditional carols plus plenty of audience participation.

Set down for 2pm, Sunday, November 18, at All Saints Church, Howick, the programme is one of the choir’s most interesting and innovative yet. It features favourites such as Joy To The World and The Angel Gabriel together with several newer works of a lively and rhythmic nature.

Under conductor Stuart Weightman, the choir has embraced these new carols with vigour and bounce and the audience can expect to hear the very bright and cheerful, Rag Time, together with the lovely spiritual, Sister Mary, and two delightful songs by Bob Chilcott, a former member of The Kings’ Singers. Most of the carols have a jazzy rhythm adding a special dimension to the music.

The Auckland Boys’ Choir will lead the opening procession and will also present a bracket of festive songs including Kings Came Riding and a charming carol about a little pig at Christmas.  This renowned choir of 40 fine young singers has been a significant part of the Auckland musical scene for several years and their concert participation is a special treat.

As always there will be audience involvement and a concluding sequence encompassing traditional Christmas favourites.  Not to be forgotten are the mince pies and mulled wine at the interval.

So come a’carolling on Sunday, November 18 and enjoy the spirit of the Christmas in more ways than one. Tickets available at the door – adults $20, seniors and students $15, children $5. For enquiries ph 534-9093.
