TOP PERFORMER: Reducing weight was a vital objective in the 599’s development. A dry weight of 1495kg results in a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.23kg/hp. Photo supplied. RATHER than use straight line performance measurements of top speed and 0-100 kmh time, Ferrari judges its fastest vehicles by measuring their time around its Fiorano test track.
This quantifies not only performance in a straight line, but also a Ferrari’s ability to get around corners.
So, with a Fiorano lap time of 1’24” the 599 GTO is the fastest road-going Ferrari ever, eclipsing the 1’25 lap time of the Ferrari Enzo.
Launched recently at the Beijing International Motor Show last month, the 599 GTO has a race developed 670hp V12 engine.
Top speed is over 335km/h, and the GTO rockets from rest to 100km/h is just 3.35 seconds.
Essentially a road-going version of the 599XX experimental track car, the 599 GTO is reserved for just 599 clients who seek the ultimate in Ferrari flavoured high performance driving.
A number of Ferrari’s most valued New Zealand clients have already expressed interest in the car, which arrives here in 2011.
