Despite its increased performance, fuel consumption is just 8.4 litres per 100km, a huge 21 per cent better than the outgoing model. This efficiency gain is the result of a highly advanced direct injection petrol engine with turbo charging, known as TSI.
From just 2.0 litres of displacement, the Golf R produces 199kW at 6000rpm and maximum torque of 350Nm is accessible from 2500rpm all the way to 5000rpm.
Golf R transfers the power of the TSI engine to the road via the latest generation of Volkswagen’s 4Motion all-wheel drive system.
High levels of safety complement the car’s performance. Seven airbags and ESP as standard helped sixth generation Golf achieve the highest possible five-star rating in the recently revised EuroNCAP crash safety test.
Ever since Golf R was revealed at the Frankfurt Motorshow in September, the local New Zealand distributor has received constant enquiries.
