• Howick and Pakuranga Times
EVERY couple of months hubby and I find ourselves heading to GBS Bar & Restaurant for an easy dinner. However, time had slipped by and I hadn’t called that way in a while so recently, when cooking was not on the agenda, we made our way to this popular watering hole in Picton Street, Howick.
It took less that two minutes for us both to decide on the crispy duck leg. Now, most foodies know duck can be a hit and miss affair. In the wrong hands it can turn out tough but not this time. Our duck was just ducky. Absolutely tender and deliciously flavoured, it was served on whipped kumara with apple, bacon, baby spinach, mushrooms and an orange jus. This dish absolutely came up trumps on a wet and wild night.
What’s more we even indulged in dessert, a rare treat for us. This time the specials board was just too hard to resist and at $10 each, hubby and I said, ‘yes’ to both the banana bread with toffee sauce and ice cream and a decadent Baileys crème brulee titivated with a slice of shortbread – very yummy.
Admittedly I felt a bit too full afterwards but had no regrets about succumbing to a sweet ending. We really enjoyed it.
