THE Howick Little Theatre has previewed its 2010 season at its annual Preeves Night.
About 90 people attended the event on Saturday, and the theatre’s administrator Kathy Bigwood says a good night was had by all.
Theatre lovers who went along were treated to a snippet of each of the five productions being staged next year.
“It’s a really good line-up for 2010,” says Ms Bigwood.
“We’ve only chosen to do one drama next year. That’s The Raft directed by Jason Te Mete, who performed in King & Country earlier this year.”
Kicking off the new season in March is Mammals, which is a comedy about a chaotic family who don’t have room for any secrets.
It’s described as a “gem – the dialogue gurgles, sparkles, and fizzes with compassion, recognition and wit”.
Next up in May is The Raft, “a beautiful and evocative play about the healing power of love” set in a West Coast bach.
Audiences will be able to experience how one stormy weekend becomes a stunning night of theatre.
The theatre presents the comedy Kevin’s Bed in July to warm up those wintry nights.
It’s described as a wicked and wry look at Dan and Doris’ golden wedding anniversary – a time to return to their old home and join the celebrations as they quietly contemplate life in disarray.
September is the month for “mature themes” with the comedy Sexy Laundry.
Alice and Henry check into a trendy hotel armed with Sex For Dummies to jump-start their 25-year marriage.
Finally, in November, Four Flat Whites in Italy – a comedy by Roger Hall – takes to the theatre’s stage.
Featuring the playwright’s signature wit and one-liners, holidays from hell were never so much fun. Kiwi critics say this play is a “satisfying and fun night out”.
